Our Second Cat Farrah

For many years we have owned a family cat named Cleo. We got her from a friend in May, 1997, she was 7 weeks old when she was given to us to raise. She is 12 years old now.

She has been a neat pet that we have loved, and she has loved our family in return. We have had good times and bad times with her.

Anyone that is thinking of getting a new family kitten or an adult cat from shelters, can do so by checking the nature of the cat, making sure that it has a loving personality.

Last year we were given a grown cat that was raised by an older woman, that had passed away. My friend had promised the woman that had owned the cat that she would find the cat a good home. We already owned Cleo. When my friend came over after the woman had passed away, and brought this sweet looking black and white cat, to much to our surprise we learned that the cat had about 6 brothers and sisters. This cat was a very wild cat. It had lived in the woman's home and also in a garage with her other siblings. Here is a great book on information about Cat Behavior Problems

We tried all the things that we were told on how to tame this cat, if only we had known about the above book, I'm sure it would have helped us. After about 5 month we were never able to even pet this cat without wearing gloves. It growled badly at any movements on our part besides scratching and bitting. We did ask our friend if perhaps we could exchange this wild cat, for one of the other young cats. They were about 2 years old, and all had been well cared for. They all had been neutered, and had their health check ups at the Veterinarian for their shots. Our friend finally came over bringing Farrah, a sister of this wild cat. Their personality was totally different.

This is the latest photo of Farrah

In just a few days Farrah had become one of our family. She seem to love us and we began to love her. Instead of a meow, she makes a bird chirping noise for her little purr.

We have a male miniature poodle, named Silver which is her very best friend now. You might wonder what happened to the cat which we could never even pet or love. Our friend found someone that had a barn with many other cats, and it is living very happily there in the barn catching mice and other rodents. It is happy on a farm in the local farming community.
